Letter and envelope dated July 26, 1861, from Camp Knox, Bush Hill, Virginia, to Mr. John Grant informing him of the death of his son:
"Dear Sir, I am very sorry to inform you that your son came to his death at the Battle of Bull Run on Sunday last by a wound received from a cannonball. His loss is greatly lamented amongst us. We sympathize with you in your great affliction."
