Men and equipment from the War Assets Administration in South Portland are deployed to Waterboro, Maine, to fight the forest fires there. Two pumpers and 15 men led by WAA fire chief George R. Stevens left on Tuesday, October 21, 1947, followed by another pumper and 30 men led by WAA plant manager Wallace B. Worth on the morning of October 22, 1947. Other equipment sent by the WAA to Waterboro include a portable pump, 10,000 feet of hose, 100 gallons of gasoline, 50 gallons of oil, first aid supplies, and sandwiches made by plant employees.
