John E. Bradford & Co. - 1897 - a group of children were playing on a pile of spars at the yard on Commercial Street when a spar rolled and sent two young children into the water. Some young men were on the adjacent pier and, when they heard the screams, dove into the water and rescued the children. Published in the Portland Daily Press, June 29, 1897. |
