General Order No. 42, dated August 30, 1862, from the Maine Adjutant General office, whereby the Governor directed the rendezvous of drafted men, and officers, to take place at three locations: Camp Abraham Lincoln in Cape Elizabeth (South Portland), Camp Keyes in Augusta, and Camp John Pope in Bangor. The document gives Portland as the location of Camp Lincoln; the camp was actually located in the Ligonia area of (then) Cape Elizabeth. |
