Scope & Content |
The New England Fair opens today, Monday, August 17, 1896, and runs through Saturday. Some events will take place at Portland City Hall, but most of the fair activities will be at Rigby Park in South Portland. The agricultural fair features horse racing, a kite flying exhibition, and exhibits of livestock. The Page Woven Wire Company, a fence company, has a virtual zoo of animals planned to show the strength of its fenced enclosure - a brown bear, three elk, three deer and a fawn, two coyotes, and a buffalo called "Old Ben".
