The Masonic Building, 107-111 Ocean Street in Knightville, South Portland, Maine. The Hiram Lodge #180, Free and Accepted Masons, purchased the lot of land on the corner of Ocean and E Street in 1896; in September 1897, they chose a committee of five to estimate the cost and prepare plans for erection of a Masonic Hall at that site (committee members: Thomas B. Haskell, Stephen Scamman, John Q.A. Jordan, Matthew Woods, and Freeman Willard); on May 3, 1898, they voted to accept the plans for a Masonic Building as prepared by Francis H. Fassett, architect, and that the Building Committee be authorized to erect the building in accordance with said plans; at the December 27, 1898, meeting, it was voted to hold the next meeting in the new Lodge Hall in Knightville; on January 24, 1899, the first meeting of the Hiram Lodge took place in the new hall. |
