Town meeting took place to discuss the idea of building a bridge from Mussey Farm Point in Ferry Village to the Portland Dry Dock in Knightville. Speeches made by Dr. J.W. Lowell, Captain Talbot, William Spear, and others, in favor of constructing a bridge. Lorenzo D.M. Sweat and John Mussey had offered to pay $2,000 toward the cost. D.W. Kincaid presented plans. Committee was formed to investigate the idea. A report that Portland Dry Dock proposes improvements, including a reservoir on the Mussey farm to supply their engines with water. The Oxnards have leased their Oxnard mill at Lawrence Cove [Mill Creek] to parties who propose to use part of it for grinding plaster. Published in the Portland Daily Press, April 6, 1872. |
