Walter J. Royer grocery store - 1881 - the grocery store of Walter J. Royer at Ferry Hill, Cape Elizabeth [South Portland], Maine, was broken into and the thief stole cigars, tobacco, confectionery and fancy goods amounting to about $20. They entered by means of a window, smashing in the entire sash. The money drawer was overhauled but it contained only a few cents as the money had been locked up for safe keeping. A watch dog is kept in the store but by some mistake Mr. Royer neglected to unloose him that night rendering him powerless. Published in the Portland Daily Press, May 19, 1881. |
