The 1903 opening and dedication of Whitehall, 344 Summer Street, South Portland, Maine [the street was renamed and renumbered in 1928 - the building then carried an address of 894 Broadway]. Judge Edward C. Reynolds gave the dedication speech, in which he named all of the other past halls in the Pleasantdale neighborhood - Bodge's hall in Ligonia; Captain Robinson's hall at Brown's Hill; the hall on Elm Street where Knapp Bros. grocery was located; Vestry hall in the basement of the Elm Street School, and the chapel on Elm Street. Whitehall was built for its owner, William J. White, by builder Norman H. Cook. Published in the Portland Evening Express, November 19, 1903. |
