Cabinetmaker for 6 years; moved to Portland and was foreman of the stilling room at Portland Kerosene oil works for 6 years. In 1862, established a grocery business in Ligonia, Cape Elizabeth [South Portland] with his brother-in-law W. Stinchfield; in 1866, Melville's brother V.B. Fuller bought out Stinchfield and they operated the business under the name Fuller Brothers. Around 1876, Stinchfield bought the grocery and ran it for about two years, then Melville and V.B. Fuller repurchased the business around 1878. They continued operating as Fuller Brothers until 1881, when Melville bought out his brother's interest in the grocery and brought his son Charles L. Fuller into the business, operating as M.B. Fuller & Son. |
