This call company was originally organized in 1923 as the Thornton Heights Hose Company No. 6. The company first received hand-me-down equipment from other stations and stored its equipment in the garage on Main Street, on the corner of Ardsley Avenue. The City of South Portland built a permanent station for the company at 15 Union Street in 1939, and purchased a 1941 Mack 500 GPM (gallons per minute) pumper, received on January 8, 1941.
