Maine to the wilderness: the Civil War letters of Pvt. William Lamson, 20th Maine Infantry. A transcription of Lamson's letters. He writes of being at Camp Mason in August 1862 with the 20th Maine as it was organizing, then mustered and headed south to the battlefields. Camp Mason is one of several other names given to the campground in Ligonia, Cape Elizabeth (now South Portland), Maine, which was designated Camp Abraham Lincoln by the Adjutant General's Office in 1862. |
