Building the Lightning, by Rufus G. Smith, Associate Editor of Yachting, published by the Lightning Class Association. A 24-page instruction manual for construction of a Lightning-class sloop. Book was found in the envelope addressed to Alfred E. Cormier, from the Lightning Class Association, South Haven, Michigan, postmarked June 8, 1960, cataloged under 2020.026.26. A blue print plan for a Lightning-class sloop was found folded and tucked into the front of this book; that plan is cataloged under 2020.026.29. The Lightning Class Assocation was formed to promote and develop Lightning-class racing under uniform rules. Lightning-class sloops are built under the design created by Sparkman and Stephens, Inc., under the plans known as No. 265. Part of a collection of the papers of Alfred E. Cormier of Cormier Construction Company, Mitchell Road, Cape Elizabeth, Maine. |
