Cape Elizabeth Sentinel, February 27, 1885. On page 3: Ferry Village - Captain J.D. Dodge is in command of the schooner Elva E. Pettengill; Willard - Daniel Pilsbury has died; Cape Elizabeth Depot - Clark and Chaplin Ice Company finished filling their mammoth ice house at this place on Monday of this week, it holds 35,000 tons; Willard - Caleb Loveitt died last week. Abandoned at sea - the schooner Mary E. Long, previously commanded by Captain George Orne, is lost; the vessel was owned by Orne, Captain Edmund Henley, Captain J.C. York, and Captain William T. Studley. Turner's Island - the Milliken house on Kelsey Street burned to the ground - the house was owned by Clark and Chaplin Ice Company - Frederick D. Chaplin, foreman of the company, was living on the second floor and Frank W. Thomas, engineer of the Eastern Railroad, lived on the first floor. |
