Fort Preble - Battery I, 240th Coast Artillery Regiment, Maine National Guard. Views of the Battery I communications trailer and man operating searchlight. Two different photos. In 1930, a new battery in the 240th Coast Artillery was organized and assigned to South Portland. The armory was established in the Union Hall on Monroe Street. Some remodeling of the hall took place. In 1931, a new garage was built to house the battery's searchlight trucks and, in 1934, a pistol range was built in the basement of the hall. |
