Members of Company K of the First Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, posed at Camp Burdett, South Portland, Maine, in 1898. Edward M. Ward is pictured in the middle row, at far right, with a pipe in his mouth. Camp Burdett was located on the grounds of Fort Preble during the Spanish-American War in 1898. The company was sent here to help with coastal defense. |
