1972 team photo, South Portland Merchants, a Portland Twilight League baseball team. The team had a 29 - 12 record for the season. League champions, Southwestern Maine Invitational champions. Front row: Peter Gignac, Alan Livingston, Terry Hadlock, Dick Curry, Bernie Cormier, Manager Bob Philbrick Back row: Frank Davis, Dave Ellsworth, Bob Nutter, Dan Smyth, Geno Toloczko Missing: George Beattie, Dave Sprague, MIke Jones, Dave Reid South Portland had a baseball team in the Portland Twilight League from roughly 1961 to 1995. The first team was organized by City Manager Bernal Allen and was known as the South Portland Merchants (circa 1961 to 1964), then was sponsored by Ametek and renamed the Ametek Redskins (1965 to 1970), and changed its name back to the South Portland Merchants (1971 to 1995). |
