Description |
Aerial view of the Mill Creek area in South Portland, Maine, circa 1951. At top of image is the open field known as Pine Tree Park. The Mahoney school building can be seen in the lower left; the building was being used as South Portland High School at the time of this photo. On the right side, a glimpse of one side of Mill Creek Pond and the beginnings of Mill Creek Park (Mill Creek Park constructed from 1945 to 1955). In the center, the intersection of Broadway and Ocean Street with the gas stations on two corners. The stand-alone building that housed the first Shaw's Supermarket in South Portland is clear. The Armory building can be seen in top left corner. The railroad line can be seen running from top left to lower right; the railroad line has since been removed and is now part of the Greenbelt Walkway. |
