John R. Gentry, famous horse in the late 1890s. This photo appeared in The Trotter and Pacer on September 7, 1898. It marks John R. Gentry's achievement in pacing a mile at Rigby Park on September 24, 1896, in record time at 2:00 1/2. He was known at the time as the fastest horse in harness. This was a pacing record (vs trotting record). His record was broken a year later when Star Pointer paced a mile in 1:59 1/4 at Readville.
