Description |
Five wooden pegs (treenails) from the clipper ship Snow Squall. Some labeled "futtock 11 - T7, T9, etc. These were part of the salvaged lot from the Falkland Islands. The Snow Squall Project began in 1982 and was headed up by Nicholas Dean and Fred Yalouris. It culminated in 1987 when the remains of the Snow Squall were brought to South Portland to be housed in the newly-formed Spring Point Museum. The Snow Squall was too large to fit in the one museum; some portions of the ship were split up and sent to be housed at the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, ME, the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park, and the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City. There still was material left over, so the remaining pieces were buried for preservation. Just before those remaining pieces were buried, Robert Bent obtained these pieces (and the iron spike 2012.133.118) from the leftovers. Robert had been involved in the forming of the Spring Point Museum. |
