Description |
A Charga-Plate customer card from Filene's department store in Portland, Maine. The customer information is stamped in the metal: Mrs. John S. Austad, 578 Sawyer Street, South Portland, Maine. This 2.5" x 1.25" rectangular metal card was a precursor to the modern-day credit card. Manufactured by Charga-Plate Group, Inc., New York, the customer's name and address are stamped in the metal, similar to a dog tag. When the customer made a purchase, the sales person would put the card in the imprinter, put the charge slip on top, and the customer's information would be imprinted on the slip. |
