Description |
Treenail (trunnel), from the clipper ship, Snow Squall. Taken from the wreck of the Snow Squall in the Falkland Islands in April, 1982. Treenail is made from the wood of a Locust tree and was used to peg the outer hull planking against the oak frames of the ship. The Snow Squall was built at the Butler shipyard on Turner's Island in Cape Elizabeth (now South Portland) in 1851. |
