Description |
Uniform hat worn by Patrolman Louis Brown of the South Portland, Maine, police department. Up until about 1970, these white leather hats were used by the South Portland Police Department officers in the summer. This hat was known as an eight point hat, due to the shape of the top. The 8-point hat was an early hat used by the SPPD; the hat designs later changed to a round shape on the top. Officers would switch to their white hats on Memorial Day and wear them through Labor Day. |
