Principal of South Portland High School from 1940-1965. Mahoney started his career at South Portland High School as a math teacher in January, 1921. He organized the first track team at SPHS and served as the track and field coach for 12 years. In 1933, he was appointed sub-master at the school, then appointed principal in 1940. He maintained the position of principal until 1965, when he became Director of Curriculum for grades 7 through 12. |

Mahoney was long active in connection with the College Entrance Examination Board, and was the first New England school head to be appointed to its advisory board. |
