Description |
The Dora L. Small School is located at 87 Thompson Street. The original building was constructed in 1966 and first occupied in February 1967. The school was named after Dora Small, a distinguished teacher in the South Portland school system. Ms. Small's teaching assignments included the East High Street, Broadway, and Roosevelt Schools, and for a number of years she was principal of Roosevelt School. She was also co-founder and first president of the State of Maine Elementary Principals' Association. Dora Small died in August of 1976. In 2002, a new Small School building was constructed behind the old school. Upon completion of the new building, the old school was demolished and students moved into the new building in the fall of 2003. Small School currently serves grades K-5. |
