Description |
Reheater made by General Electric in South Portland, Maine. Shown here loaded on two flat cars, ready to ship. These reheaters were sub-assemblies used in power plants. Four sets of trucks on each car. Each of these reheaters consisted of two tube bundles, running from end to end, one on top of the other. The shell of the reheater itself was about 1 1/2 inches thick. On the left side of this image is the head or cover. The dome heads weighed about 27 tons, measured about 15-16 feet in diameter, and had a network of piping inside (roughly eight-inch diameter pipes) that connected, through a bulkhead, to the tube bundles. The bulkhead (a round piece of plate about an inch thick) had a slot cut into it and the tube bundles went inside of that opening and ran the length of the unit. From the front of the dome head to the bulkhead was roughly 10 feet. |
