Description |
Butler shipyard, 1848-1851. Alford Butler bought land at Turner's Island in December, 1848, and construction of the yard began immediately. The following ships were launched from the Butler shipyard: 1849 - ship Butler (445 tons), for Portland merchant Charles Richardson 1850-10 - clipper bark Black Squall (420 tons), for Portland merchant Charles Richardson, Captain Knight 1851-7-14 - clipper ship Snow Squall (743 tons), owned by Alford Butler, Captain Silas D. Gregg 1851 - clipper bark Warner (500 tons) |
